The 2010-2011 conference opens with an overview of some of the new definitions in the world of biology and genetics.  These include 'genome' - with emphasis on the basis for genetic complexity of an organism;  'Coding DNA genes,’ ‘Non-Coding' DNA genes and miRNAs; and, the new genomic definitions of phenotype and genotype emphasizing the effect of epigenetics and the human 'Epigenome'

Sam reviews definitions of proteome and interactome with an example using BRCA1 in inherited breast cancer; and then the changing definitions of 'Life' following the announcement of 'Synthetic Life' July 2, 2010.

Next, he focuses on the new 'Genomic Medicine' which is providing researchers with the tools to tackle the genetic basis of Common Human Diseases such as diabetes, blood lipids, autism, cancer and dozens of others with the new GWAS - GenomeWide Association Studies - using SNPs and CNPs technology to find the Polygenes associated with these conditions.

Sam concludes with an update of Regenerative Medicine and Tissue Engineering focusing on the new technologies for producing mammalian heart, lung and liver in vitro utilizing a natural organ scaffold obtained via decellularization followed by recellularization; ending with the new technology, announced September 3rd, for producing a rat pancreas in the developing embryo of a mouse!
